  • Keep in mind that preferences such as age and gender can also lengthen the wait time. Rest assured, however, that once your adoption application is approved, GRR will contact you when a suitable match is found.
  • Currently, we are in need of adoptive families wanting to adopt a senior Golden, or a Golden with a special need, e.g. those needing maintenance medication for thyroid issues, joint and diabetic medications, or with storm phobia. Those dogs currently outweigh the number of younger dogs that we have in foster care. Please consider opening your heart and home to them - just like our young dogs, they too are looking for their forever homes.
  • We also are in desperate need of foster homes - opening your home to a Golden in need.
  • Due to the holidays, and our volunteers' need to spend time with their families, there may be an additional delay in processing applications. We appreciate your patience.
  • GRR policy only allows placing senior Goldens in homes without a fence.

Golden Ribbon Rescue no longer adopts dogs to families with children under the age of 8 years old (repeat adopters will be considered on a case by case basis). This policy is for the benefit and safety of your children. Our goal is to set realistic expectations for prospective applicants.

Expect the adoption process to take from one to eight months. Placements are made according to what is best for the Golden. It is not a first-come first-served basis, but rather which family is the best match for the dog. Each Golden comes to us under unique circumstances and has individual needs that we strive to meet. In addition, each family also has individual circumstances which are taken into account when making a placement. The more specific your requirements, the harder it will be to find just the right dog for you from our rescue group, as we can never predict what dogs we will have available at any given time.

There is a $10 non-refundable Application Fee, we reserve the right to deny an application for any reason. Application Fee does not apply to fostering.

There is an adoption fee of $350.00 ($200.00 for a Senior Dog) less the application fee for approved applicants. If you are fostering and you decide to adopt that dog, the total adoption fee will be $350 or $200 for a senior dog.

For dogs from Turkey, the adoption fee is $600.00, less the application fee of $10.00, and with the additional criteria for adoption:

  • Someone who will be home most, if not all of the time.
  • A fenced yard - no invisible fences.
  • Children in the household must be 8 years or over.
  • One or more friendly dogs in the home is desirable, but we will consider an only-dog home.
  • Adoptees must live in central or south Texas.

We generally have a waiting list so the process can take from a week to several months depending on the type of dog you want. Please remember the more specific your criteria the longer it may take to find a dog for you. Factors such as young children, work schedules and lack of a fence may make some dogs unavailable to you. Dogs come in and are adopted almost daily, so if you are patient, an appropriate dog should become available. If you are looking for a dog quickly, then our program may not be right for you.

Please be very careful to answer each question, should you skip an answer, you will need to press your back button to complete the question. You may keep typing at the end of a line to complete an answer if needed.

NOTE: We can not consider applicants outside the state of Texas due to the inability to complete the home visit portion of our interview process. We do not ship or transport dogs. If you are from Texas but outside the Austin area, and wish to work with us, you must be willing to drive to Austin to meet and adopt a dog. We must have a GRR Volunteer in your area who will be able to complete the home visit portion of the application process.
